Tehran (IP) - Secretary-General of Iran Drug Control Headquarters said Iran and Afghanistan are unwittingly involved in drug-related disaster, saying that Iran is ready to work with Afghanistan to implement joint development projects including alternative livelihoods and development programs.

Iran PressIran news: "We strongly believe that Iran and Afghanistan are like brothers in a family who have been unwittingly caught in the disaster of domestic drug use," stated Secretary-General of Iran Drug Control Headquarters Brigadier General Eskandar Momeni, in his meeting with Afghan Deputy Minister of Interior for Drug Control on the sideline of the sixty-third annual meeting of the UN Commission on Drugs at the UN Headquarters in Vienna.

"We appreciate your efforts to control the cultivation and production of crops and drugs and we are aware of your difficulties in stopping cultivation and production, which is why we always attend international meetings and stress the need to assist Afghanistan in the field of alternative cultivation and the special importance of development programs," the top official went on to say.

Momeni noted that the continuation of this situation has led to the continued insecurity and spread of terrorist groups, the intensification of extremism, and, most importantly, the youth of the two countries are at greater risk each day than ever before. They are in a terrible dilemma, so a solution must be considered.
