Tehran (IP) - The main spokesman of the Taliban in Afghanistan said that the operations of the Afghan military forces against the Taliban forces are the reason for the group's movements in recent days in Afghanistan.

Iran PressIran News: Zabihullah Mujahid, in a telephone call with Iran Press News Agency on Wednesday on the purpose of the recent Taliban movements in different cities of Afghanistan, said: "With the start of a new round of Afghan Army operations, Taliban decided to protect areas under their control and prevent the Afghan Army from advancing."

Taliban spokesman in Afghanistan said that the war in the country should end, adding that the recent Taliban movements in different Afghanistan cities are aimed at ensuring the security of the people of this country."

Mujahid added that security had been restored in areas where Taliban forces had recently entered.

Meanwhile, Saeed Khatibzadeh, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, referred to the recent developments in Afghanistan, saying: "We are closely following the worrying developments in Afghanistan."

Khatibzadeh said that Iran wants an immediate reduction of tensions, respect for the rule of law and inclusive dialogue in Afghanistan, adding that the destructive US policy has long-term consequences in the region, and now the US' extremely irresponsible actions are inflicting even more damage.
