Zahedan (IP) - Iran border police commander announced the discovery and seizure of more than one ton of various narcotics in Sistan and Baluchestan province, southeastern Iran.

Iran PressIran News: General "Ahmad Ali Goodarzi," Commander of the Border Police of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said: "The Border Guards of the Saravan Border Regiment succeeded in inspecting two houses, arresting a smuggler and discovering more than one ton of narcotics along with some ammunition."

The Islamic Republic of Iran has had the highest rate of drug seizures globally in the past year due to being located at the gateway of the international narcotic highway.

The Islamic Republic of Iran anti-narcotics police discovered 1,200 tons of various drugs during the past year [in the Iranian calendar] (March 2020-March 2021), which is two-folded compared to the recent years.

Iran is the leading country in the fight against narcotics worldwide, despite its proximity to Afghanistan, the largest producer of narcotics.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the Islamic Republic's continuous efforts to combat narcotics trafficking came up with the seizure of more than 90 percent of opium, 70 percent of morphine, and 20 percent of the heroin in the world.
